Position Summary: Responsible for managing, staffing, planning, controlling and organizing the maintenance staff and operations and software evolutions of the flight training devices. Manages and evaluates the FSTD Simulator Technicians performance and development. Assures that the technical support operations of the training devices (FFS, APT, and CTD) meet the reliability targets, Aviation Authorities requirements, and customer's expectations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. 70%
  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance operations of FSTDs located at the Miami Training Center in accordance with Airbus and SQMS policy.
  • Ensures training devices comply with FAA Part 60, EASA, and other global Aviation Authority regulations.
  • Plans, organizes employee work schedules and monitors the work of Flight Simulator Technicians and Engineers assuring the daily readiness of equipment for training.
  • Review open discrepancies and department Metrics for Interrupt trends and complete mitigation plans.
  • Monitor and execute processes and procedures relating to FSTD preventative and corrective maintenance, QTGs, internal FSTD subjective and objective assessments.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and encouragement to the Flight Simulator Maintenance Technicians in the execution of their daily tasks. Promotes a positive "Team" work and learning environment that results in an effective and engaged team.
  • Monitor logistic repairs, inventory orders, and stock levels.
  1. 20%
  • Responsible for the oversight, scheduling, and coordination of training equipment AA qualification, and simulator evaluations audits. Provides communication between government evaluation authorities including the FAA, EASA, etc.
  • Project Management assignments (as assigned) to support the modification, upgrade, installation, qualification of existing or new FSTDs. Interface with simulator OEM and vendors to schedule and complete simulator projects and repairs.
  • Assist the technicians with troubleshooting and repairs during emergencies and AOG events as required.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

  • Proven management and problem-solving experience within a 24/7 aviation maintenance operations environment including managing teams.
  • Three (3) years or more of lead or supervisory experience required.
  • Five (5) years or more flight simulator maintenance, aviation maintenance, or hardware/software engineering experience required.
  • Aircraft flight systems and avionics knowledge and experience required
  • Experience working with aviation authorities and audits required
  • Quality Management Systems, OSHA Safety, and FAA Regulatory knowledge and experience preferred
  • Project Manager experience preferred


  • BS in Aviation Science, Engineering or Operations Management required
  • We will also consider candidates with a combination of education and experience that will allow them to be successful in this position.

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  • Computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, SAP, and ability to learn customized soft applications used in this position
  • Knowledge of Flight Training equipment at a technical level
  • Ability to review and read and understand technical documents, specifications and schematics
  • Knowledge of Flight Training or Commercial jet Aircraft systems preventive and corrective maintenance repair

Decision Making, Complexity:

  • Manage department of Flight Simulator Technician Team including scheduling, workflow and assignments, manage maintenance repair actions in a stress operational environment to avoid and litigate customer and training delays.
  • Assure inventories are maintained and repairable cycles adequate to assure reliability.
  • Manage the FAA/EASA and other AA regulator direct interface related to FSTD approvals, communications and directives as required.
  • Keeps customers and ATC Leadership informed of maintenance situations and expected resolutions.

  • Manage the Flight Simulator Lead Technicians, Simulator Technicians, and Engineers
  • Reports to the Director, Technical Operations

Nature of Contacts:

Moderate Communication on a frequent basis with internal and external parties, regulatory evaluation authorities, vendors and suppliers, FSTD manufacturers, procurement, import/export and logistic departments

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift at least 30 pounds, climb stairs, bend and stand for long periods of time move/work within cramped spaces.
