Position Summary:

The Senior Benefits Analyst (Contract) supports the administration of all aspects of the US employee health and retirement benefit plans of Airbus Americas.  This position also supports the operations of the Benefits Department with the completion of special projects, researches benefits matters and provides report to management of findings and proposed actions.  The Senior Benefits Analyst functions as an employee self-service contact by answering general benefits questions, maintaining benefit plan portals, liaising with vendors to ensure quality service delivery, and serves as internal expert for benefit plan administration, operations and compliance.


Primary Responsibilities:

Plan Administration, Operations and Communication: 40%

  • Support the administration of the company health and welfare benefit plans/programs and retirement plans for Airbus Americas, Inc. participating entities.  Handle day-to-day administration on FMLA/STD/LTD requests and vendor processes and communicate needed actions to HR Business Partners/Specialists.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on plans operations facilitate effective and accurate benefits delivery in accordance with plan contracts and provisions.
  • Research complex benefit plan issues with appropriate parties. Identify and recommends alternative approach/solutions. Develop actions to resolve. Document project/actions.
  • Act as the primary self-service contact for Airbus Americas benefits vendors, benefits systems and interface with internal HR Business Partners/Specialists by answering general benefits questions.
  • Assist with processing new hires, changes in benefits systems, and monitoring FMLA/STD/LTD requests and vendor processes.
  • Administer data files process between ADP payroll system and vendors, to include MarketLink benefits administration system and Fidelity.  Monitor files to ensure timely processing. Identify and correct errors. Identify process/data changes required to maintain integrity of data files.
  • Support the annual Open Enrollment for benefits, including review and edit of communications, coordination of calendar and meeting activities, validation of benefit plan set-up in benefit systems, and assist with employee election processes.
  • Lead annual audit for Airbus Americas retirement plans. Prepare data for required regulatory tests and plan filings (5500's, non-discrimination testing, control group testing). Serve as primary point of contact with plan auditors to facilitate timely completion of the annual plan audits.  Liaise with vendors to complete insurance plan 5500 filings and annual update to plan wrap document.
  • Ensure vendor/carrier/recordkeeper/advisor services and contractual requirements accurately align to compliance standards and terms of the benefit plans.
  • Update benefits portal for employee benefit plan changes and audit ADP to ensure data integrity and accuracy of benefit contributions, payroll deductions.
  • Review benefit plan communications timely and in adherence to the terms and provisions of the plans offered within the controlled group.  Guide distribution methods for employee benefit plan communication and required plan documents.

Legislative Compliance: 30%

  • Supports regulatory and compliance updates. Document and identify improvements to compliance process workflow and communication procedure to track and monitor required regulatory compliance changes and to ensure plans are amended, revised and updated or restated timely to meet legislative mandates, new compliance regulations, or to reflect organization changes and restructuring. Informs and educates US entity HR and Benefits leaders on compliance actions. Serves as project leader for benefit plan compliance correction processes and coordinates the response and interaction with external government and accounting audits.
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of employee benefit compliance requirements for all plans with in the controlled group.

Additional Responsibilities:   30%

  • Administration of vendor relationships, purchase orders, invoices and payments related to the benefits and compensation budget and benefit plan operations.  Secure, prepare and submit invoices for payment to Finance. Track and monitor benefit payments, ensure all payments are timely made, prepare monthly reconciliation to annual budget. Work Benefits Manager to identify annual benefits cost spend/budget and establish annual funded purchase orders for each budget period. 
  • Market survey completion and  benchmarking analysis.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training: 


  • Bachelor degree in Human Resources, Business, a related field, or equivalent education and experience.


  • 6+ years of progressive experience in employee benefits administration and communications with at least 4 years as a subject matter expert focused on benefit plan administration and  compliance, to include qualified (defined benefit and defined contribution) and nonqualified retirement plans and health and welfare plans.  
  • Preferred experience working with Fidelity Investment as the retirement plan recordkeeper/service provider.
  • Experience in setup and administration of employee benefits enrollment portals and management of data audits is essential.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Practical hands-on administering and maintaining fully compliant retirement plans and health and welfare plans within large complex organizations with multiple entities, corporate/subsidiary operations, and complex controlled group structure.  Experience effectively correcting compliance and plan administrative processes is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. employment and benefit laws and regulations and compliance standards and initiatives under the EEOC, IRS, DOL and OSHA. 
  • Effective result-oriented problem solving skills to include exceptional negotiation and facilitation skills, experienced in resolving conflicts between different parties to a dispute and reconciling conflicting requirements.
  • Effective multitasking, ability to manage multiple and simultaneous priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment is required
  • Engaged, collaborative team player with strong interpersonal and consultative skills. Ability to build relationships and gain respect at all levels of the organization, handling complex situations professionally with diplomacy. Ability to handle confidential information with extreme discretion.

Communication Skills:

  • Superior communication skills (written/oral/ presentation), able to present clear and concise briefings and reports at all levels of an organization, both individually , within a team setting or large group.

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  • Proficient in HRIS, web applications, with advanced knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.

This position is a temporary (contract) position with no specific time period but could be extended or shortened as needed.  Contractors are employed by a 3rd party vendor and placed on assignment to Airbus in America.
